The organisers of Highcliffe Food Festival are encouraging shops to take part in a window
display competition to reflect what the village has to offer all year round. The competition is
open to all Highcliffe shops and asks them to make a display featuring the Butcher, the
Baker and the Pizza Maker. The entries are to be judged by the owners of the Lord Bute
hotel and restaurant Simon Box and Gary Payne who are both keen designers. They are
offering the winners a meal for two at the Lord Bute.
Festival chairman Mary Reader explains “The Food Festival brings in several thousand
people over the weekend and we are keen to show that Highcliffe has a good selection of
shops and cafés available all through the year. So many shopping centres have lost their
own artisan butchers and bakers and we are lucky to have both, as Chris Watson Butchers
and Ballantines bakery and patisserie are with us throughout the year. Added to which we
have delicious pizzas made in the wood fired oven in the Paddle café. So far twelve entries
have been received from a wide range of businesses, but we do have room for more.”
Displays are to be on show for the week preceding the Festival which is on Saturday 2 and
Sunday 3 June, to allow for judging.
